Dhaka, Sep 30 (V7N)- Malaysia’s capital Kuala Lumpur topped the list of the world’s most polluted cities on Wednesday, while Dhaka ranked fourth, according to the latest Air Quality Index published by IQAir.
The index, released by the Switzerland-based air quality monitoring organisation at 12 noon Bangladesh time, showed Kuala Lumpur with an AQI score of 165, placing its air quality in the “unhealthy” category.
Uganda’s capital Kampala ranked second with a score of 159, while Singapore was third with a score of 157.
Dhaka ranked fourth with an AQI score of 155, also placing the capital’s air quality in the “unhealthy” category under IQAir’s classification.
Jakarta, Indonesia, ranked fifth on the list with an AQI score of 153.
According to IQAir’s classification, an AQI score of 0 to 50 indicates “good” air quality, while a score between 51 and 100 is considered “moderate.”
An AQI score of 101 to 150 is classified as “unhealthy for sensitive groups,” while 151 to 200 is considered “unhealthy.”
Air quality with a score between 201 and 300 is classified as “very unhealthy,” while a score above 301 is considered “hazardous.”
The latest rankings highlight continuing concerns over air pollution in major cities, where environmental and weather conditions can contribute to significant fluctuations in air quality.
