After enduring days of scorching heat, residents of Dhaka finally received a respite as rain and stormy winds swept across various parts of the capital on Thursday evening (May 2). Reports of rainfall emerged from Uttara, Gulistan, Jatrabari, Sadarghat, Islampur, and surrounding areas around 9 pm, bringing relief to the sweltering city.
 
The relief came as stormy winds and rain began around noon in areas such as Baridhara, Bhatara, and Kuril. Delighted residents were seen expressing joy as the much-awaited rain poured down, providing a welcome break from the relentless heat.
 
Earlier forecasts from the Meteorological Department had predicted rain for May 2, and as evening approached, clouds gathered across the sky. Lightning flashes illuminated the horizon, signaling the imminent arrival of rain. Eager for relief, city dwellers wasted no time in stepping out to enjoy the refreshing downpour.
 
The rainfall also brought a slight drop in temperature across Dhaka, providing further relief to residents. The maximum temperature, which had soared to 39.5 degrees Celsius, decreased to 38.3 degrees Celsius following the rain. Meteorological authorities anticipate a further decrease in temperature over the coming days, offering hope for continued relief from the heatwave.
 
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) reports that there may be rain on Friday in various parts of the Dhaka division.
 
In numerous areas of Bangladesh, including Chattogram, Rangamati, Cox's Bazar, and Comilla, respite arrived on Thursday morning in the form of rain following an extended period of heat. 
For the longest 30 days since April 1, Bangladesh was hit by a heatwave.
