Due to the extreme cold, all secondary schools in Rajshahi's northern district have been ordered to close for two days, beginning today.
An official notification, written by Dr. Sharmin Ferdous Chowdhury, deputy director (acting) of secondary and higher secondary education in the Rajshahi zone, states that all primary-level schools are closed today as well.
According to yesterday's forecast by the local meteorological authority, the district will have temperatures of less than 10 degrees Celsius for the next two days, on January 21 and 22.
The district's education officers met yesterday and decided to keep the elementary and secondary schools closed in light of the forecast.
In just two days, the district saw its temperature drop by four degrees Celsius. In contrast to the previous day's 13.8 degree Celsius, the local meteorological office recorded 9.8 degree Celsius yesterday.

According to him, the lowest temperature on Friday was recorded at 13.8 degrees Celsius.
According to him, there was a drop in temperature yesterday as well, and he predicted that this kind of weather would continue until January.
The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) published a circular on January 16th, stating that any district's education officials have the authority to close schools if the temperature falls below 10 degrees Celsius.
The circular states that there is a cold wave affecting several sections of the nation, which is severely impeding educational activity. Should the temperature in any district fall below 10 degrees Celsius, the regional deputy directors, in collaboration with the district education officers, have the authority to close all secondary level educational institutions.
