Residents of Pabna have finally found relief from the prolonged intense heatwave and sweltering weather, thanks to the much-anticipated rainfall this morning.
 
On Wednesday (May 22) morning, from around 10:30 AM, there was light to moderate rain for about an hour, providing considerable relief from the ongoing oppressive heat. Previously, there had been some gusty winds and rain past midnight one night, but it hadn't alleviated the heat.
 
People who ventured out for essential work in the morning were somewhat inconvenienced by the sudden rain. Those who carried umbrellas managed to stay dry, while others who went out after the rain began were seen with umbrellas.
 
Housewife Salma Khatun was on her way to see a doctor at the hospital with her young daughter. Speaking at the traffic intersection on Abdul Hamid Road in Pabna city, she said, "When I left the house, there was no rain. After arriving in the city, it started raining suddenly. Now I can't leave, I'm stuck in the rain. But this rain does bring some much-needed relief from the sweltering heat."
 
Rickshaw driver Saidul Islam, waiting in the rain, said, "I have been waiting for rain for so many days, but it just wouldn't come. I have never experienced such heat and drought in my life. However, today's rain brings a lot of relief to my mind and soul."
 
Nazmul Haque Ranjan, Assistant Weather Observer at the Ishwardi Weather Office, reported that Pabna experienced its first rainfall on May 7, recording 10.5 millimeters of rain. Today's rain did not occur in the Ishwardi Weather Office area, so the amount of rainfall was not recorded there. However, more rain is expected in the near future.
 
He also mentioned that on April 30, this season's highest temperature was recorded at 43.2 degrees Celsius, breaking all previous records. Pabna experienced an extremely intense heatwave. Currently, the temperature in Pabna has been fluctuating between 34 and 37 degrees Celsius for the past four days.
