As of the morning of January 23, 2024, four divisions and many districts nationwide are under the influence of a light cold wave, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD). Lower temperatures and thick fog are the hallmarks of this weather trend, which is predicted to persist although it may lessen in certain places. 

According to the BMD, a mild cold wave is defined as 8 to 10 degrees Celsius, a moderate cold wave as 6 to 8 degrees Celsius, and a severe cold wave as 6 degrees Celsius or lower.

The areas affected by the mild to moderate cold wave include the districts of Moulvibazar, Barishal, Bhola, Cumilla, and the divisions of Dhaka, Rangpur, Rajshahi, and Khulna, according to the most recent meteorological advisory. Chuadanga and Sirajganj had the lowest temperature of the season on Tuesday, 6.6 degrees Celsius, while Cox's Bazar's Teknaf upazila recorded the highest temperature, 27.5 degrees Celsius.

For the past few days, Bangladeshi citizens have been suffering from extreme cold, particularly in the country's north. The weather phenomena has caused major disruptions to daily life, including transportation services and daily activities.

Alongside the cold wave, there is a chance that moderate to dense fog will cover the nation from tonight to morning, with some locations possibly seeing it through to noon. Road connectivity, inland river transportation, and air navigation are all severely hampered by this fog.

Across the nation, a small increase in daytime and nighttime temperatures is anticipated. Additionally, the BMD predicts a few spots in the Khulna division to have light rain or drizzle, while the remainder of the nation is expected to see partly overcast skies and dry weather.
