Dhaka, Oct 19 (V7N) — A Dhaka court has granted a three-day remand to Kamal Ahmed Majumder, former state minister for industries, former member of parliament from Dhaka-15 constituency, and chairman of Mohana Television, in connection with the murder of Ikramul Haque. The incident took place during the anti-discrimination student movement earlier this year.

The police presented Majumder before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court of Dhaka on Saturday. The investigating officer, Sub-Inspector (SI) Harun Ur Rashid of Kafrul Police Station, sought a seven-day remand to ensure a proper investigation. However, the defense lawyer applied for bail and requested the cancellation of the remand. Following arguments from both sides, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ali Haider approved a three-day remand.

Majumder was arrested on Friday night from the Gulshan area by Kafrul police.

The case relates to the injury of Ikramul Haque during a protest on August 4 in front of the Hazrat Shah Ali (RA) shrine in Mirpur-10. He was immediately taken to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) for treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries on August 14. Haque’s father, Ziaul Haque, later filed a murder case at Shah Ali Police Station on September 7, leading to Majumder’s arrest.

The remand will allow the police to further investigate Majumder’s involvement in the incident.
