Dhaka, Dec 09 (V7N) — Former State Minister for ICT, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, has been placed on a three-day remand in connection with the murder case of Manik, a student from Shahbagh Police Station jurisdiction.

State lawyer Omar Faruk Farooqui stated that Palak was presented before the Dhaka CMM Court on Monday morning, where the investigating officer sought a seven-day remand for police interrogation. Palak's legal team opposed the request, citing his health concerns and requesting the court to cancel the remand. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court granted a three-day remand.

In a related development, the same court approved a two-day remand for former Secretary Shah Kamal in a separate case involving the murder of Jubo Dal leader Shamim, under Paltan Police Station.

Additionally, prominent figures including former Food Minister Advocate Kamrul Islam, Workers Party leader Rashed Khan Menon, former Detective Branch officer Mashiur Rahman, and former acting mayor of Gazipur City Corporation Asadur Rahman Kiron have been newly arrested in connection with various cases filed by different police stations, Adv. Farooqui confirmed.

The arrests and remands come amidst a series of high-profile investigations and legal actions following recent political and social unrest.
