Dhaka, Dec 09 (V7N) – The Appellate Division's full bench will hear the state’s petition to stay the High Court's verdict declaring "Joy Bangla" as the national slogan of Bangladesh on Tuesday.

On Monday, a three-member Appellate Division bench led by Justice Ashfaqul Islam set the hearing date.

The original writ petition, filed in 2017 by Supreme Court lawyer Dr. Bashir Ahmed, aimed to establish "Joy Bangla" as the national slogan. On March 10, 2020, the High Court bench comprising Justice FRM Nazmul Ahsan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader issued a historic judgment, stating, “We declare that ‘Joy Bangla’ shall be the national slogan of Bangladesh.”

Following the change in government on August 5, the state sought to suspend the High Court's decision.

Additional Attorney General Barrister Anik R Haque confirmed that the stay petition was filed on December 2.
