Chittagong, Dec 10 (V7N)- A Chittagong court has granted a five-day remand for eight accused individuals in a case involving an attack on police and obstruction of law enforcement duties. The incident occurred during protests following the denial of bail to Chinmoy Krishna Das, spokesperson of the Sammilit Sanatani Jagran Jote.
The order was issued on Tuesday by Judge Md. Alamgir Hossain of the Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate-3 Court. Public Prosecutor Mofizul Haque Bhuiyan stated that the investigating officer, Selim Mia, had initially requested a seven-day remand, but the court settled on five days after the hearing.
Background
The eight accused had already undergone six days of interrogation in a separate case involving police attacks and vandalism. They were produced in court today for further proceedings in the current case.
The violence erupted on November 26 when followers of Chinmoy Krishna Das clashed with police near the Rangan Cinema Hall in Chittagong. The unrest followed the court's denial of bail to Chinmoy Krishna Das. During the confrontation, Saiful Islam Alif was fatally attacked in front of the Bandel Sevak Colony.
