Dhaka, Jan 19 (V7N)— A Dhaka court has issued an arrest warrant against former Member of Parliament and renowned cricketer Shakib Al Hasan in connection with a cheque dishonor case involving Tk 4.4 crore.

The Additional Chief Metropolitan Court of Dhaka issued the order on Sunday, along with warrants for the arrest of two other individuals implicated in the same case.

The case, filed by Sahibur Rahman, a relationship officer at IFIC Bank, alleges that Shakib and four other accused were involved in a cheque dishonor incident. The complaint was registered on December 15, 2024. Following this, the court issued summons against the accused on December 18, directing them to appear in court.

However, with the accused failing to comply with the court's order, arrest warrants were issued on Sunday.

Shakib Al Hasan, who debuted for the Bangladesh national cricket team in 2006, entered politics in 2024, contesting the 12th parliamentary election as an Awami League candidate from Magura-1 constituency. Since the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government on August 5, 2024, Shakib has reportedly not returned to the country.

The court has now directed law enforcement to apprehend the accused, including Shakib, to proceed with the case.
