Sirajganj, Feb 04 ((V7N) — A court has sent former MP Dr. Abdul Aziz, who was arrested in Dhaka by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a case related to the attempted murder of BNP leaders and activists, to jail.
The former Sirajganj-3 (Raiganj-Tarash) MP was presented before the Tarash Amli Court on Tuesday afternoon. His lawyers sought bail, but Judge Md. Obaidul Haque Rumi scheduled a later date for the bail hearing, pending the submission of the original case documents.
Court GRO Shiuli Khatun confirmed the developments at noon.
The case against Abdul Aziz dates back to the 2018 parliamentary elections when Awami League leaders and activists allegedly attacked the convoy of BNP-nominated candidate Abdul Mannan Talukder. Following this incident, Asaduzzaman Asad, president of Baruhas Union BNP in Tarash Upazila, filed a case against Abdul Aziz and other Awami League members.
RAB personnel apprehended the former MP from Kalabagan in Dhaka on Monday night (January 3) in connection with the case. He remains in custody as the legal proceedings continue.
