Dhaka, Mar 23 (V7N) – A Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of a 3,115 square foot flat in Banani and the freezing of five bank accounts belonging to former State Minister for Women and Children Affairs and ex-MP from Gazipur-5, Meher Afroz Chumki.

The market value of the seized Banani flat is estimated at Tk 30.51 lakh, while the frozen bank accounts hold a total of Tk 2.32 crore.

The order was issued by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Ghalib on Sunday (March 23) following a petition by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

According to ACC Public Relations Officer Akhtarul Islam, the petition was submitted by ACC Assistant Director Minhaj Bin Islam to prevent any transfer or concealment of Chumki’s assets.

Court sources revealed that the ACC had gathered evidence indicating that Meher Afroz Chumki had acquired substantial movable and immovable assets. The commission argued that there was a risk of her transferring ownership or liquidating the assets, which could obstruct the investigation.

To ensure a fair probe, the court approved the ACC’s request to seize and freeze the assets.

This action comes as part of the ongoing anti-corruption drive against former political leaders suspected of illicit wealth accumulation.
