Dhaka, Aug 13 (V7N) – Attorney General Asaduzzaman has criticized the High Court’s verdict on the minimum age limit for freedom fighters, calling it politically biased. He made the remarks during an appeal hearing on Wednesday regarding the legal challenge to the age criteria.

The state’s top law officer said that the High Court’s decision has effectively halted the selection of freedom fighters. Responding to the Chief Justice’s question on the urgency of the case, Asaduzzaman explained that the selection process cannot proceed due to the verdict.

Previously, the government had issued a gazette setting the minimum age for freedom fighters at 12 years and 6 months. The High Court, after reviewing a writ petition challenging the gazette’s validity, declared both the gazette and the related law section illegal. Following this, the Appellate Division stayed the verdict while the state filed an appeal.
