Dhaka, Sep 04 (V7N) – A Dhaka court has rejected the bail applications of former Awami League minister Abdul Latif Siddiqui and journalist Manjurul Alam Panna in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act by Shahbagh Police Station.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Hasib Ullah Piyas passed the order on Thursday afternoon following a hearing.
Defense lawyer Farzana Yasmin Rakhi appeared for the accused, while Additional Public Prosecutor Shamsuddoha Suman opposed the bail on behalf of the state. After hearing both sides, the court denied their pleas.
The case originated from an incident on August 28, when the organization ‘Manch 71’ held a roundtable discussion at the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU). During the program, several individuals stormed the venue, creating chaos and tearing the banner. Police intervened and arrested 16 people from the scene.
The following day, SI Amirul Islam filed a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act at Shahbagh Police Station. Latif Siddiqui and Panna were later shown arrested in connection with the case.
