Dhaka, Nov 23 (V7N)- Senior Supreme Court lawyer Zahirul Islam Khan Panna (ZI Panna) has been appointed as the state defense for ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in a crimes against humanity case at the International Crimes Tribunal-1 (ICT-1).

The three-member tribunal, led by Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder, made the appointment on Sunday (November 23). From now on, ZI Panna will represent Sheikh Hasina as a state-appointed lawyer in the ongoing proceedings.

ZI Panna, the chairperson of the non-governmental organization Ain O Salish Kendra and a senior Supreme Court lawyer, had previously expressed interest in representing Sheikh Hasina. Last August, he had also applied to defend her in a case related to crimes committed during the July uprising, but the tribunal had rejected his application at that time.
