Dhaka, Dec 15 (V7N) — Journalist Anis Alamgir was arrested on Monday in connection with a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act at Uttara West Police Station. He is scheduled to be produced before the court shortly this afternoon.

The case was filed early Sunday (December 14) by Aryan Ahmed, a central organizer of the July Revolutionary Alliance, alleging that Anis Alamgir, actress Meher Afroz Shaon, and four others conspired to undermine the stability of the state. Other individuals named in the case include models Maria Kispatta and Imtu Ratish Imtiaz.

Officer-in-Charge Kazi Mohammad Rafiq Ahmed of Uttara West Police Station confirmed the arrest, stating that it was carried out following the complaint.

Earlier, on Sunday night, Anis Alamgir was taken from his gym to the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch for questioning before his formal arrest. Authorities are continuing investigations into the matter.

The case has sparked concern among journalists and civil society groups regarding press freedom and the use of anti-terrorism laws.
