Dhaka, Jan 21 (V7N) — The International Crimes Tribunal-2 has directed Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, sentenced to death for crimes against humanity during the Liberation War, to submit the necessary documents, including a certified copy of the verdict, to file an appeal against his sentence.

The order was issued on Wednesday (January 21) evening by the judicial panel of the tribunal.

Earlier on the same day, Azad, the first convict on death row in the war crimes case, surrendered to the tribunal. In response to his application for a stay of execution, the government had suspended his death sentence for one year on October 22, 2025, on the condition that he would surrender to the court and file an appeal.
