Dhaka, Mar 25 (V7N) – Senior Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal has been appointed as the 18th Attorney General of Bangladesh, the Ministry of Law confirmed on Wednesday (March 25).
Barrister Kajal previously served as the last elected General Secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association and as the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Bangladesh Bar Council.
The post of Attorney General had been vacant since Md. Asaduzzaman resigned on December 27, citing personal reasons. Following his resignation, Arshadur Rouf, the Additional Attorney General, was assigned the role in an acting capacity.
Later, Md. Asaduzzaman was elected as a Member of Parliament and subsequently took charge as the Law Minister.
The appointment comes about a month after the formation of the new government following the February 12 national elections. Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal is known to be associated with BNP politics, reflecting the current political alignment in the government’s key legal appointments.
As Attorney General, Kajal will serve as the chief legal advisor to the government and represent the state in the Supreme Court.
