Dhaka, May 07 (V7N) — The International Crimes Tribunal of Bangladesh has ordered journalist Farzana Rupa, journalist Mozammel Babu, and former minister Dipu Moni to appear before the court on May 14 in connection with allegations related to the 2013 Shapla Chattar incident.

The order was issued on Thursday (May 7) by the judicial panel of International Crimes Tribunal-1.

According to Chief Prosecutor Aminul Islam, their arrests will be formally shown on the day of their appearance before the tribunal. He also stated that individuals allegedly involved in coordinating actions such as internet and electricity shutdowns during the May 2013 events may also face charges.

Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim said that Dipu Moni, who was serving as foreign minister at the time of the incident, is accused of spreading misleading information internationally regarding the situation. He further alleged that Farzana Rupa and Mozammel Babu, associated with Ekattor Television, broadcasted provocative reports about the Hefazat-e-Islam rally.

The tribunal also fixed June 7 as the deadline for submission of the investigation report in the case.

Earlier, several individuals, including former Inspector General of Police Shahidul Haque and Ziaul Ahsan, were arrested in connection with the ongoing investigation.

The case continues to be under formal investigation by the tribunal authorities.
