Dhaka, August 29 — The Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate's Court has granted a five-day remand for Salman F Rahman, former Industry and Investment Advisor to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and Anisul Haque, former Law Minister, in connection with a murder case filed at Badda Police Station during the anti-discrimination student movement.

The two former high-ranking officials were brought to the court around 7:00 AM on Thursday morning. Following a hearing, the Metropolitan Magistrate approved the remand, allowing law enforcement additional time to interrogate the suspects. This decision comes after the court had earlier granted a five-day remand for Shahjahan Ali, a shop employee from the Newmarket area, on August 14, and for Salman F Rahman and Anisul Haque in two separate cases on August 24.

Salman F Rahman and Anisul Haque were initially arrested on August 13 from Sadarghat, a busy area in the capital, Dhaka.

In a related case, the court also granted a five-day remand for former Member of Parliament Sadek Khan and dismissed army officer Ziaul Ahsan. Both individuals are suspects in a separate murder case under the jurisdiction of Adabar Police Station, also related to the anti-discrimination student movement.

Sadek Khan and Ziaul Ahsan were presented before the court at 7:00 AM on the same day. After listening to arguments from both the prosecution and defense, the Metropolitan Magistrate ruled to place them on a five-day remand for further questioning. Ziaul Ahsan was detained late on August 15 from the Khilkhet area, while Sadek Khan was apprehended on August 24 from West Nakhalpara, Dhaka.

The arrests and subsequent remands are part of an ongoing investigation into several violent incidents that occurred during the recent anti-discrimination student protests in Dhaka. The movement has led to multiple legal actions against several prominent figures, with the police continuing to investigate the extent of the involvement of various individuals.

Police sources state that the remands are necessary to uncover further details and the potential roles of the accused in the alleged crimes committed during the protests. The police aim to gather more evidence and testimonies to build a strong case.
