Pabna, Jan 07, (V7N) - In a special operation by the Bangladesh Army, a notorious criminal with 17 cases, identified as Babu alias Kangal Babu alias Jaira Babu (43), was arrested from Aminpur in Sujanagar Upazila, Pabna. The operation, based on secret intelligence from the National Security Agency (NSI), recovered a locally made single-barrel shotgun from his possession.

Major Shariful Islam, who led the operation, confirmed the arrest on Monday (January 6).
The army launched the raid late Sunday night, conducting the operation from midnight until 7 a.m. Monday morning in the Kestopur area of SagarKandi Union under Aminpur Police Station. A team of approximately 45 personnel carried out the operation, successfully detaining the accused.

Babu, the son of Aiz Uddin Mondal from Kestopur village, has long been associated with various political leaders. During the Awami League government, he was reportedly close to Yusuf Ali Khan, President of the Aminpur Thana Awami League.

The sources also alleged that Babu was previously arrested by Aminpur police on July 21 last year but was released in exchange for a bribe.

The arrested criminal is accused in 17 cases, including charges of murder, robbery, illegal sand extraction, extortion from local markets, and other heinous crimes. Over the years, he changed political allegiances to avoid prosecution while engaging in criminal activities under the protection of influential individuals.

Major Shariful Islam stated that after the arrest, the army handed Babu over to Aminpur Police Station. Officer-in-Charge Syed Alamgir Hossain of Aminpur Police Station confirmed, “The army transferred the suspect to us, and he was presented before the Pabna Magistrate Court on Monday afternoon.
