RAJSHAHI, Aug 02 (V7N) — A video allegedly showing individuals linked to drug-related cases meeting at a restaurant late at night in Rajshahi has gone viral on social media, prompting renewed discussions over the movement of accused persons facing legal cases.
According to local sources, a meeting reportedly took place on July 29 at around 9:00pm at Master Chef Restaurant near Alkar Mor in Rajshahi city. The video shows Abdul Rahim Tipu, a resident of Godagari Upazila and an accused in multiple drug cases, along with another individual named Jasim and businessman Mosharaf Hossain.
The purpose of the meeting and the issues discussed there could not be independently confirmed. Authorities have not yet disclosed details regarding the authenticity or context of the video.
Police sources said Tipu is facing several cases under the Narcotics Control Act, including some cases in which he is reportedly absconding. He was also named in a 2017 list of suspected top drug dealers published by the Home Ministry. He was reportedly accused in a recent case involving the seizure of 4.3 kilograms of heroin.
Local residents have demanded an investigation into the video and appropriate legal action if any wrongdoing is found. They also questioned how individuals facing multiple cases could continue moving freely in public.
Godagari Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Atikur Rahman said police are aware of the cases against Tipu and Jasim and are working to locate and arrest listed drug offenders.
He said legal action would be taken based on investigation findings. Authorities said the facts surrounding the viral video will be verified through proper investigation.
