Jhalkathi, Sep 25 (V7N)- Aggrieved residents of Nalchiti in Jhalkathi have formed a human chain to demand the urgent repair of a severely damaged road filled with numerous potholes. The human chain took place in front of Suryapasha Government Primary School on Wednesday morning, highlighting the dire state of the road from Mallikpur to the school.

Prominent community members, including senior teacher Haroon Or Rashid Talukder, businessman Golam Mostafa Khan, Ali Akbar Khan, social activist Bali Taifur Rahman Turya, and others, voiced their concerns during the protest. They pointed out that the road has not been renovated for an extended period, rendering it nearly impassable and posing severe challenges for the local community, especially for elderly individuals and pregnant women who need to travel to the hospital.

Participants alleged that despite the allocation of funds for the road's renovation, the work was left incomplete. They claimed that the bill was withdrawn without finishing the project and that the primary contractor vanished after starting only partial work, leaving the road in an even worse condition. This has led to considerable suffering for local residents.

Around 200 men and women joined the hour-long human chain, undeterred by adverse weather conditions. They issued an ultimatum for the road to be repaired within ten days, warning of a more intense protest if their demands are not met.

Nalchiti Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Md. Nazrul Islam responded to the protest by stating that all essential roads would be repaired on a priority basis, acknowledging the concerns raised by the local community.
