Cox's Bazar, Oct 18 (V7N)– Five people, including a Bangladeshi national, were shot dead during a violent clash between two groups at the Jamtoli Rohingya camp in Ukhia, Cox's Bazar. The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon, and several others are currently receiving treatment at various hospitals within the camp.

Among the victims was Mohammad Belal (39), a teacher from Palangkhali, Ukhia, who was working for an NGO-managed school. The other deceased have been identified as Omar Farooq (30), a resident of Block D-7 in Rohingya Camp No. 15, Md. Yunus (25) of Block B-3, Abdullah (18) of Block C-2, and Hamida (50) of Block D-5 in the same camp.

The clash, which involved an exchange of more than fifty rounds of gunfire, occurred in Block D-5 of the camp at around 1 PM. Local sources confirmed that the injured were rushed to Kutupalong MSF Hospital in Ukhia, where they are currently receiving medical attention.

Following the incident, additional police forces have been deployed to the Rohingya camps to prevent further violence. According to 8 APBN Captain Amir Zafar (Additional DIG), a clash between two groups led to the casualties. He confirmed that while five people were fatally shot, the situation in the camp has since returned to normal.

The reasons behind the conflict are still under investigation, as authorities continue to monitor the situation to prevent further escalation.
