Ukhia, Oct 29 (V7N)- In a continued effort to manage the Rohingya refugee population, over 500 Rohingyas from various camps in Cox's Bazar are relocating to Bhasanchar in Noakhali. The relocation process began Monday morning as Rohingya individuals gathered at the Ukhia College grounds before their scheduled departure.

According to Mohammad Samchu-Ddouja Nayan, Additional Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (ARRRC), the voluntary relocation process commenced Monday afternoon. The Rohingyas willing to move were brought to Ukhia Degree College premises, where registration was conducted by the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner’s Office.

“The number of Rohingyas willing to go to Bhasanchar in this 24th round is estimated to be between 500 to 600 people. From Ukhia, they will travel by bus to Patenga in Chittagong on Monday midnight, with further transit to Bhasanchar scheduled for Tuesday morning,” Nayan stated.

Since the beginning of this relocation initiative on December 4, 2020, approximately 32,000 Rohingyas have been moved to Bhasanchar in 22 phases, with a significant group of 1,527 people relocating as recently as February 2023.
