Sujanagar, Pabna, Dec 03, (V7N) - A devastating fire broke out at Haji Market in Sujanagar, Pabna on December 2, causing significant damage. The fire completely destroyed eight shops and their goods, resulting in an estimated loss of at least 2 crore rupees. Five people were injured in the fire, and the damage was described as catastrophic by the affected shop owners.
According to Abdur Alim, in charge of Sujanagar Fire Service and Civil Defense, the fire started at around 9:30 PM at an oil shop owned by Mr. Ali, a diesel and petrol trader. The blaze quickly spread to neighboring shops, including those of Rentu Pramanik (sanitary shop), Alauddin (steel furniture shop), Sonai Sheikh (hardware shop), Jilal Uddin (workshop), Bajlu Mridha (paint shop), Jhantu Sheikh (workshop), and Sagar Hossain (sanitary shop). All of these shops, along with their goods, were completely destroyed.
Firefighters from Pabna, Sujanagar, Kashinathpur, and Santhia upazilas, along with local residents, worked tirelessly to control the fire. The fire was brought under control around 12:30 AM, after nearly three hours of intense effort.
The injured include Mr. Ali (50), Robin Hossain (24), Jasim Uddan (25), Mirazul (19), and Jabbar Ali (45). They were taken to Pabna General Hospital for treatment, where their conditions are being monitored. Dr. Zahidul Islam, the Resident Medical Officer of Pabna General Hospital, confirmed their admission following the incident.
The cause of the fire is believed to have been an accident during the unloading of oil from a delivery truck at Mr. Ali's shop, according to Sujanagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mir Rasheduzzaman Rashed. He added that a list of the victims has been prepared and submitted to the District Commissioner's office for further action.
This tragic incident has left many families devastated and raised concerns about fire safety and infrastructure in the area. The affected businessmen are seeking compensation for their losses, while authorities continue their investigation into the cause of the fire.
