Manikganj, Jan 22 (V7N) — Ferry services on the critical Rajbari-Daulatdia and Paturia waterways in Manikganj resumed this morning after being suspended for six and a half hours due to dense fog.
The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) halted operations at 3:10 am on Wednesday as heavy fog reduced visibility, making navigation hazardous. Three ferries carrying passengers and vehicles were stranded at the Daulatdia end of the river during the suspension.
Services were restored at 9:30 am after the fog cleared sufficiently, ensuring safe passage for vessels.
Md. Salahuddin, Manager of BIWTC Daulatdia Ghat, confirmed the timeline and reason for the suspension, stating, "Ferry services were suspended to prevent accidents due to the dense fog. Now that the fog has cleared, operations have resumed."
He added that more than 200 cargo trucks stranded at the Daulatdia end are being cleared on a priority basis. Currently, 12 ferries are operational on the Daulatdia-Paturia route to alleviate the backlog caused by the disruption.
The temporary suspension caused delays, but authorities are working to ensure a smooth flow of traffic as normal services resume.
