Khagrachhari, Feb 10 (V7N) – In an ongoing crackdown under 'Operation Devil Hunt', law enforcement agencies arrested four more leaders and activists of the banned Chhatra League, Jubo League, and Swechchhasebak League in Khagrachhari. This brings the total number of arrests in the district to eight within the last 24 hours.
The individuals arrested include:
- Abhi De, Joint Secretary of the banned Chittagong Mohsin College Chhatra League and Vice-President of Mahalchhari Upazila Chhatra League
- Abul Kalam Azad, General Secretary of Dighinala Upazila Swechchhasebak League
- Afzal Hossain, Member of Upazila Awami League
- Md. Abdur Rahman Jiban, Youth and Sports Affairs Secretary of Bhaibonchhara Union Jubo League
- Sohag Mia, President of Guimara's Borapilak Ward Chhatra League
- Md. Selim, Abdur Rahim, and Md. Azizul
According to police reports, Abhi De was apprehended from Area 24 of Mahalchhari on Sunday night while allegedly preparing to incite violence. He is the son of the late Sudhir De of Mahalchhari Tila Para and is accused of directly participating in attacks against student movements during the July-August Revolution in Chittagong.
Khagrachhari Police Superintendent Md. Arefin Jewel stated, "To prevent instability, raids have been conducted in various parts of the district, and identified terrorists have been arrested. There are multiple cases against them. The raids will continue until the terrorists are eliminated."
The arrests come as part of the government's broader effort to restore law and order in the country. The nationwide Operation Devil Hunt was launched on February 8 following a decision by law enforcement agencies at the Home Ministry. The operation aims to crack down on groups labeled as terrorist organizations, particularly those linked to political violence and unrest.
Authorities have pledged to continue their operations until all threats to public safety are neutralized.
