Rajshahi, Feb 10 (V7N) – Law enforcement agencies have intensified their crackdown in Rajshahi, arresting 52 individuals in the metropolis and surrounding districts as part of regular operations and the ongoing ‘Operation Devil Hunt.’

According to RMP spokesperson and Additional Deputy Police Commissioner Sabina Yasmin, the operations were carried out by the Metropolitan and District Police in collaboration with joint forces. Among those arrested, four individuals are Awami League leaders and activists apprehended during the special operation.

Details of the Operation

The operation officially commenced at 3:30 PM on Sunday from the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) headquarters. Security forces set up checkpoints at key intersections across the city, including:

  • CNB Intersection
  • Sahebbazar Zero Point
  • Alupatti
  • Talaimari
  • Bhadra
  • Railgate

Vehicles were thoroughly searched, and suspicious activities were closely monitored.

Key Arrests Under 'Operation Devil Hunt'

During nighttime raids, joint forces apprehended four individuals from different parts of the city, all of whom are linked to the Awami League:

  1. Nayan Sheikh – Vice-President of Jubo League for Ward No. 8 of Hargram Union.
  2. Abdul Hanif – An Awami League worker from Sharisakuri area under Karnahar Police Station.
  3. Sabbir Ahmed – Resident of Notun Madhupur area under Damkura Police Station.
  4. Rahidul Islam alias Vishal – From Bindarampur area, Damkura Police Station.

These individuals are accused in various criminal cases, and their arrests are part of a broader strategy to curb unrest and maintain law and order in the region.

Additional Arrests in Rajshahi

  • 14 individuals were arrested by the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police during routine operations.
  • 34 more people were apprehended from different police station jurisdictions across Rajshahi District.

Official Statement

Speaking on the matter, Additional Deputy Commissioner Sabina Yasmin stated, “Our priority is to ensure public safety and prevent any destabilizing activities. The operation will continue until we have rooted out all elements contributing to disorder.”

The arrests come amidst rising political tensions and ongoing efforts by the authorities to suppress criminal activities and restore stability in the region.
