Sylhet, Feb 20 (V7N) – A student was severely beaten at Sylhet MC College dormitory on Wednesday night (February 19) after making derogatory comments on Facebook regarding the mass uprising. The victim, Mizanur Rahman Riyad, a third-year honors student, alleged that the attack was carried out by Shibir activists.

Riyad, an active member of the Islamic organization Talamiyyah Islamiya, claimed that he knew the attackers. When asked for names, he identified Ismail, Sadman, Riyad, and Adnan, stating that they beat him severely with rods.

Talamiyyah Islamiya MC College Branch President Albab Hossain accused Shibir of intolerance toward dissenting organizations on campus, saying they react aggressively even over minor online comments.

MC College Shibir President Ismail Khan denied involvement, claiming a third party was conspiring against Shibir.

BNP-affiliated Chhatra Dal questioned on its verified Facebook page whether bloodshed politics had returned to the campus.

MC College Principal Professor Abul Anam Riaz stated that an investigation committee will be formed to ensure such incidents do not happen again. "We want students to live in a good environment," he said.

As tensions rise, authorities are expected to increase security on campus to prevent further clashes.
