Rajshahi, Mar 11 (V7N) - The fare for all trains operating over the newly constructed Jamuna Rail Bridge will increase starting March 19, 2025, following the bridge's inauguration on March 18. This decision was confirmed by Railways Ministry Secretary Md. Fahimul Islam on March 9.

Advance tickets for travel on March 19 have already been released online, revealing higher prices compared to current fares. For instance, the fare for Shobon Chair seats on the Dhumketu, Silk City, and Padma Express trains traveling the Dhaka-Rajshahi route will rise by Tk 45, from Tk 405 to Tk 450. Similarly, Snigdha Chair fares will increase by Tk 92, from Tk 771 to Tk 863, while AC Special seats will see a rise of Tk 109, from Tk 926 to Tk 1,035. AC Berth seat fares will also increase by Tk 161, from Tk 1,386 to Tk 1,547.

The Jamuna Rail Bridge, a dual-gauge double-track bridge over the Yamuna River, was constructed at a cost of Tk 16,780 crore and is expected to enhance rail connectivity significantly. The bridge will allow for smoother operations and increased capacity for Bangladesh Railway, accommodating up to 88 trains daily compared to the previous single-line capacity of only 22 trains.
