Mongla (Bagerhat), Mar 6 (V7N) – The Bangladesh Coast Guard has rescued 13 fishermen who were stranded in the Bay of Bengal for four days after their trawler’s engine failed. They were rescued Thursday morning from the Dublar Char area in the Sundarbans.
According to Lieutenant Commander Md. Siam-ul-Haq, media officer of the Coast Guard Headquarters, a distress call was received on Wednesday at 2 pm through the national emergency hotline 999. The report stated that a fishing trawler named MV 'Ma-Babar Doa' had been drifting in the sea for four days due to engine failure. The vessel was located 10 nautical miles west of Alorkol in the Sundarbans.
Following the alert, a Coast Guard rescue team from Outpost Dubla immediately launched an operation. By Thursday morning, they successfully rescued the 13 fishermen and their vessel.
Officials said the trawler had originally set sail from Patharghata in Barguna 12 days ago for a fishing expedition. The rescued fishermen have now been brought to safety.
