Teknaf, Feb 28, (V7N) – The 'Sinha Memorial Plaque' was unveiled in memory of Major (Retd.) Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan at Shyamalapur, Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar district on Thursday. The ceremony was attended by the Chief of Army Staff, General Waker-Uz-Zaman, who paid his heartfelt tribute to the late Major Sinha and expressed deep condolences to his grieving family.
The memorial plaque was constructed under the supervision of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in the Cox's Bazar region. During the unveiling event, General Waker-Uz-Zaman reaffirmed the commitment to provide full support in ensuring quick justice for those involved in the tragic killing of Major Sinha. He also expressed solidarity with the bereaved family.
The event was attended by several prominent figures including Major General Mohammad Asadullah Minhajul Alam, the GOC of the 10th Infantry Division and Area Commander of Cox’s Bazar, Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiquee, Director General of BGB, family members of Major Sinha, and senior military and civilian officials from the Army, BGB, Police, and RAB, along with local dignitaries.
Major (Retd.) Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan was tragically shot and killed by police at the Shyamalapur checkpoint on the Marine Drive road in Teknaf on the night of July 31, 2020. He had joined the Bangladesh Army on July 21, 2003, as part of the 51st BMA Long Course and was commissioned on December 22, 2004. Throughout his military career, Sinha was a member of the Special Security Force (SSF) and had served in the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Ivory Coast in 2013.
The memorial plaque now stands as a tribute to his service and sacrifice.
