PABNA, Mar 6 (V7N) — The Bangladesh Islamic Student Camp, a student wing of the Jamaat-e-Islami's Chhatra Shibir, distributed copies of the Holy Quran to over 500 students at Pabna University of Science and Technology (PabiPrabi) on Thursday.
The distribution, held near the university's main gate at the Government Teachers Training College grounds, was organized by the Pabna city branch of Chhatra Shibir.
Abu Sadiq Kayem, central publication secretary of Chhatra Shibir and former Dhaka University branch president, presided over the event, handing out the Qurans. During his address, Kayem referenced ongoing political tensions, stating, "There are various conspiracies going on now regarding the July-August movement. But we will not let this conspiracy succeed. If the movement of 24 fails, the entire generation will fail. We will forget any of our petty interests and work together in unity for the benefit of the country, God willing."
The "July-August movement" reference is likely related to past political demonstrations and unrest, reflecting the group's involvement in broader political discourse.
The event, chaired by Pabna City Chhatra Shibir President Firoz Hossain, also featured speeches from Professor Dr. A.S.M. Tariqul Islam of Islamic University, Golam Rahman, Secretary of Pabna City Chhatra Shibir, and businessman Ashraful Islam Helal.
The distribution of religious texts on university campuses often carries political undertones, particularly in Bangladesh, where student groups are frequently aligned with political parties. This event comes at a time of heightened political activity in the country.
