Ukhiya, Mar 11 (V7N) - A tragic incident occurred in the Ukhiya Rohingya camp in Cox's Bazar, where a 12-year-old girl named Yasmin committed suicide by hanging herself due to a family dispute. The incident was confirmed by DIG Md. Siraj Amin of the 14 Armed Police Battalion. Yasmin, daughter of Esther Md. Selim, hanged herself inside the bathroom of her shelter around noon on March 11.
Local sources reported that Yasmin's family discovered her after the incident and rushed her to Kutupalong MSF Hospital, where she was pronounced dead by the attending physician. Following the incident, police recovered her body with assistance from the Armed Police Battalion and sent it to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital for an autopsy.
The suicide highlights the ongoing mental health challenges faced by Rohingya refugees, particularly among children, who are often exposed to traumatic experiences and family stressors in the camps. The situation in these camps remains dire, with limited access to mental health resources and support systems.
