Chattogram, Mar 12 (V7N) – The National Security Intelligence (NSI) team at Chattogram’s Shah Amanat International Airport has seized a consignment of gold worth approximately Tk 50 lakh from a passenger arriving from Jeddah.

The accused, Shahin Al Mamun, landed in Chattogram on Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG-136 on Wednesday morning. Acting on intelligence, the authorities detained him upon arrival.

According to airport officials, Mamun, who had traveled as an Umrah Hajj pilgrim, was found carrying 400 grams of 22-carat gold ornaments hidden in his handbag and pockets. The estimated market value of the seized gold is around Tk 50 lakh.

The recovered gold has been handed over to airport customs, confirmed Chattogram Shah Amanat International Airport Public Relations Officer Engineer Mohammad Ibrahim Khalil. "The detained passenger is currently being interrogated, and legal action will be taken accordingly," he added.
