Tangail, Apr (V7N)– Demonstrations and rallies have taken place in various locations across Tangail, mirroring nationwide protests against Israeli actions in Gaza. Participants from diverse backgrounds joined the marches and gatherings to voice their solidarity with the Palestinian people.
"Protest marches and rallies have been held in various places in Tangail, like across the country, to protest the Israeli aggression in Gaza. People from all walks of life participated in them," a local organizer confirmed.
On Monday morning, a significant protest procession commenced in front of the Tangail Press Club at 11:30 AM. The march proceeded through key areas of the city, including the Nirala intersection, old bus stand, district gate, and Battala intersection, before concluding at the city's municipal park. A brief discussion meeting was held at the conclusion of the march, where several individuals expressed their support for Palestine and condemned Israeli actions.
"On Monday at 11:30 am, a protest procession started from in front of the Tangail Press Club, circled the city's Nirala intersection, old bus stand, district gate, Battala intersection and ended at the city's municipal park. Alamin, Javed, Monirul Islam, Imran Kabir, SM Kamrul Islam, Siam, Shahriar, Aparupa, Sumaiya and many others spoke at the brief discussion meeting," a participant reported.
During the demonstration, participants chanted slogans in support of Palestinians and called for an immediate end to Israeli oppression. Speakers urged the international community to intervene and emphasized a nationwide boycott of Israeli products.
"During this time, they supported the Palestinians with various slogans. The speakers said that the Muslims of Palestine must be rescued immediately. The Israeli oppression on them must be stopped. We, all citizens of Bangladesh, are declaring a boycott of Israeli products," a protest organizer stated.
Similar protests were reported in Mirzapur Upazila, where people from different walks of life held protest marches and demonstrations against the Israeli actions in Gaza. Participants in Mirzapur also called for a nationwide boycott of Israeli goods, chanting anti-Israel slogans.
"In Mirzapur Upazila of the district, people from different walks of life also held protest marches and demonstrations against the Israeli aggression in Gaza. In the gathering, they called on all citizens of the country to boycott Israeli products by chanting various slogans against Israel," a local news outlet reported.
In Banshoil Union of Mirzapur, a protest march and assembly was organized under the banner of the Tawheedi Janata. Speakers at this event used microphones to address local shopkeepers in Banshoil Market, requesting them to cease selling Israeli products within a week and to refrain from purchasing any more in the future. Demonstrators symbolically protested by throwing 7-Up and Coca-Cola onto the ground, indicating their boycott.
"A protest march and assembly was held under the banner of the Tawheedi Janata of Banshoil Union of Mirzapur. During this, the speakers addressed the shopkeepers in Banshoil Market using mikes and requested the shopkeepers to finish selling Israeli products within a week and not to buy any more Israeli products later, and they protested by throwing 7-Up and Coca-Cola on the ground," a witness described.
Protest marches and rallies were also held in Taktarchala Bazar, with participants from various segments of society chanting slogans such as "Down with Israel, free Palestine." Reports indicate that similar anti-Israel protests occurred in other upazilas and areas throughout the Tangail district.
"Protest marches and rallies were held in Taktarchala Bazar by people from all walks of life. The rally included slogans against Israel, including 'Down with Israel, free Palestine.' There have also been reports of anti-Israel protest marches and rallies in other upazilas and other areas of the district," a local reporter confirmed.
These widespread demonstrations in Tangail underscore the strong public sentiment in Bangladesh against the ongoing situation in Gaza and the demand for international action and a consumer boycott of Israeli products.
