Mongla, July 3 (V7N) — As part of its ongoing public awareness efforts, the Bangladesh Coast Guard conducted a disaster response drill, fire safety training, and community awareness program titled “Youth Festival 2025” in Mongla on Wednesday. The program, organized by Coast Guard Base Mongla, ran from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM and involved students and youth from various local schools and colleges.

The workshop featured interactive sessions on natural disaster preparedness, followed by hands-on firefighting training. It aimed to equip young participants with practical knowledge and skills in managing emergency situations.

Speaking to the media, Lieutenant Commander Harun-or-Rashid, Media Officer of Bangladesh Coast Guard (Dhaka), said, “The Coast Guard remains committed to protecting lives and property, especially in disaster-prone coastal areas. Awareness programs like this are a vital part of our public engagement strategy and will continue in the future.”

He also urged residents of coastal regions to dial the Coast Guard’s emergency hotline 16111 for assistance in any crisis.

Commander Harun added that since its inception, the Bangladesh Coast Guard has played a crucial role in rescue operations, relief distribution, emergency medical services, and rehabilitation during national disasters. These efforts span coastal and riverine communities across the country and have significantly contributed to building local disaster resilience.

The Mongla event reflected the Coast Guard’s proactive approach in engaging youth to foster a culture of preparedness and quick response, which is increasingly critical in the face of frequent climate-induced disasters.
