Rajapur, Aug 19 (V7N) — The mobile phone used by the key victim in the high-profile murder case of Abul Bashar from South Southpur, Mathbari Union, Rajapur, has mysteriously gone missing from the drawer of the investigation officer (IO), SI Delwar Hossain of Rajapur Police Station. The victim’s wife and complainant, Mrs. Mosa Asma, has publicly accused the investigating officer of offering her Tk 10 lakh to withdraw the case in favor of the accused.
On Monday morning, Mrs. Asma, accompanied by family members, held a press conference at the Rajapur Press Club to expose these allegations. She stated that the main accused, Nazmul, is currently in jail but continues to threaten her family after his release on bail. Mrs. Asma also raised serious concerns that the IO may deliberately exclude key accused persons from the charge sheet in exchange for money.
Mrs. Asma recounted the tragic incident that took place on February 2, 2025, around 6:30 pm in front of a local tea stall in South Southpur, where her husband, Abul Bashar, a mason by profession, was brutally stabbed to death by Nazmul Hasan, Ratul, and several unidentified men wielding sharp weapons. Following the murder, she filed a murder case at Rajapur Police Station. Subsequent police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) operations led to the arrest of Nazmul and three other suspects—Tarikul Islam Tarek, Ashraful, and Sabbir. Recently, Tarek was released on bail.
Mrs. Asma further alleged that when she went to the police station to retrieve her late husband’s mobile phone and SIM card as evidence to withdraw her children’s stipends, the IO claimed the phone had mysteriously disappeared from his desk drawer. She said the police showed her the accused’s mobile phones but refused to show her husband’s, asking her not to make a fuss and even promising to buy her a new phone.
She also described a distressing conversation with the IO about the charge sheet, where the officer reportedly suggested accepting Tk 10 lakh to drop charges against Nazmul, the main accused. Mrs. Asma rejected the offer outright, emphasizing that money could never replace her husband’s life and that she demands capital punishment for the killers.
Mrs. Asma voiced her frustration over the slow pace of the investigation, the intimidation she faces from the accused and their associates, and the lack of support from the police. She lamented the loss of her family’s sole breadwinner and appealed to the higher authorities for swift justice and capital punishment for the murderers.
In response, SI Delwar Hossain denied all allegations, labeling them false and fabricated. He explained that the charge sheet could not be submitted due to the absence of the post-mortem report. Regarding the missing phone, he admitted it was lost from his table drawer and said efforts were underway to recover it. He assured that once the post-mortem report is received, the charge sheet would be filed. He also urged the complainant to follow up with the authorities in Jhalokathi regarding the report.
Rajapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge, (OC) Ismail Hossain, stated that no complaints regarding the lost mobile or threats had been lodged with him. He assured that if any threats are reported, necessary legal action will be taken and that all issues will be addressed seriously.
