Lalmonirhat, Sep 13 (V7N) – Authorities at Burimari Land Port in Lalmonirhat have seized a large consignment of newly printed two-taka notes worth Tk 1 lakh from an abandoned yard inside the port area.

According to officials, a security guard first spotted the notes lying in the open yard on Friday and immediately informed the port authorities. The notes were later recovered jointly by the port administration and members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) from the Burimari check post.

Authorities suspect that a smuggling syndicate had brought in the notes either for drug transactions or for illegal cross-border trade, but fled the scene after learning about a security search operation.

Burimari Land Port Assistant Director Badiuzzaman confirmed the recovery, saying: “After receiving the information from our security guards, we conducted the operation jointly with the BGB and recovered the notes.”

BGB Check Post Commander Anjarul Islam added that a search operation had been underway in the area based on intelligence that smuggled notes might be hidden in trucks carrying goods. “At one stage, information from the port yard led us to the recovery of Tk 1 lakh in new two-taka notes. The money has been seized and is now in the custody of 61-BGB. Legal procedures are underway,” he said.
