Jessore, Dec 16 (V7N) — On the occasion of the Great Victory Day, the Jessore 49 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Battalion provided a guard of honor at the tomb of Bir Shrestha Noor Mohammad Sheikh, a brave hero of the 1971 Liberation War, in Kashipur, Sharsha Upazila on Tuesday.
At 10 a.m., Major Noor Uddin Ahmed, Deputy Commander of Jessore 49 BGB Battalion, led the tribute, laying flowers at the tomb on behalf of the BGB. Earlier, at 8 a.m., the Sharsha Upazila administration paid homage at the tomb.
The ceremony was attended by members of the Muktijoddha Sangsad, political leaders, journalists, family members of Bir Shrestha Noor Mohammad Sheikh, authorities of Bir Shrestha Noor Mohammad Degree College, and heads of various educational institutions. Among those present were Sharsha Upazila Executive Officer Fazle Wahid, Upazila Agriculture Officer Deepak Kumar Saha, Upazila Animal Resources Officer Topu Kumar Saha, and Officer-in-Charge of Sharsha Police Station Maruf Hossain.
The event concluded with prayers for the eternal peace of the martyrs, including Bir Shrestha Noor Mohammad Sheikh.
Bir Shrestha Noor Mohammad Sheikh fought valiantly against the Pakistani occupying forces during the Liberation War of 1971 and was martyred in combat. He was later laid to rest in Kashipur village, Sharsha Upazila, and is remembered as one of the nation’s greatest heroes.
