Manikganj, Jan 05 (V7N)- Ferry services on the Paturia–Daulatdia and Aricha–Kazirhat river routes have resumed after being suspended for about seven hours due to dense fog.
The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) said ferry operations resumed at 8:00 am on Monday (January 5) as visibility on the river improved.
According to authorities, ferry movement was disrupted from 11:00 pm on Sunday night as dense fog enveloped the river. Visibility dropped to such an extent that channel beacon lights and navigation marking points became invisible, raising serious safety concerns.
To avoid accidents, BIWTC formally suspended ferry services from 1:00 am. During the suspension, two small and two large ferries were stranded in the middle of the river. As the fog gradually cleared in the morning, normal ferry operations resumed after around seven hours.
Meanwhile, due to bone-chilling cold and persistent fog, ferry services on the Paturia–Daulatdia, Aricha–Kazirhat and Dhawapara–Nazirganj routes are being suspended for 6 to 10 hours almost daily. This recurring disruption is causing severe hardship for passengers, workers and traders, especially those traveling to and from the southern regions.
BIWTC officials said ferry operations will continue to depend on weather and visibility conditions to ensure passenger safety.
