Rangamati, Jan 23 (V7N) — A woman from the Veda community, Monira Begum (60), tragically lost her life in a road accident in Rangamati town on Friday morning.
According to locals, the accident occurred around 10 am near the TV Center area when a truck (plate number Chattametto-T-11-0693) carrying rice entered the town from Chittagong. A passenger-carrying autorickshaw (Rangamati-Th-11-0881) behind the truck collided with it and overturned. A sack of rice from the truck fell onto the autorickshaw, killing Monira Begum instantly. The drivers of both vehicles fled the scene.
Locals immediately rescued the victim and took her to Rangamati General Hospital, where Dr. Shawkat Akbar Khan confirmed she was dead on arrival.
Monira Begum, who had been living in a rented house in Manikchhari, originally hailed from Comilla district. Tragically, her only son had died of electrocution just five months ago. Her sudden death has left the community in deep mourning.
