Dinajpur, Feb 26 (V7N) — A young man who was detained by India’s border guards after inadvertently crossing into Indian territory through the Hili border has been returned to Bangladesh following a flag meeting between border forces, officials said.

The youth, Ripon Sarkar, son of the late Azgar Sarkar of Shailan village in Birampur Upazila, was handed back to Bangladeshi authorities around Wednesday night after being held for nearly seven hours.

According to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), the incident occurred Wednesday afternoon when the mentally unstable youth mistakenly crossed into India through the station area of the Hili Border. Members of India’s Border Security Force (BSF) detained him shortly afterward.

BGB Hili CP Company Commander Alauddin said that upon learning of the incident, BGB officials held discussions with BSF personnel, leading to the youth’s release and formal handover through the border station area later that night.

After being brought back, BGB personnel handed Ripon Sarkar over to local police, who subsequently returned him to his family.

Officials said the situation was resolved amicably through routine coordination between the two border forces.
