Natore, Apr 17 (V7N)- Police have arrested 13 individuals in connection with a major robbery at an under-construction power grid substation in Baraigram upazila of Natore. Law enforcement agencies also recovered a significant portion of the looted items and seized the truck used in the crime.
The information was disclosed by Superintendent of Police Muhammad Abdul Wahab at a press briefing held at his office on Friday afternoon.
According to police, the incident took place on the night of May 26, when a gang of 20 to 25 armed robbers attacked the substation located in the Khordd Kachutia area. The assailants assaulted four on-duty security guards, tied their hands and feet, blindfolded them, and held them hostage.
The gang then looted electronic equipment and battery units worth approximately Tk 19.2 crore before fleeing the scene in a truck.
Following the incident, Anik Kumar Biswas, Assistant Manager of Signy Engineering Limited, filed a case with Baraigram Police Station.
In a joint operation, members of the District Detective Branch (DB) and Baraigram Police conducted raids across multiple districts—including Rajshahi, Pabna, Sirajganj, Tangail, Gazipur, and Natore—leading to the arrest of 13 suspects.
Police identified Ruhul Amin and Saikat as the main coordinators of the robbery. Initial investigations suggest that the plan was orchestrated from inside prison.
Recovered Items and Ongoing Investigation
During the operation, law enforcement recovered:
- 350 battery cells
- The truck used in the robbery
- 10 mobile phones
- Various locally made weapons
Police stated that the arrested individuals are professional criminals with multiple cases filed against them across different police stations in the country.
Authorities confirmed that operations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining members of the gang and recover the rest of the stolen goods.
