JHALOKATHI, July 31 (V7N) — Residents of Kushangol Union in Nalchity upazila of Jhalokathi have staged a human chain demanding the immediate resumption of repair work on the Seota-Manpasha road, which has remained incomplete for nearly one and a half years.
Around 3 kilometres of the important road have been in poor condition for a long time, causing severe difficulties for residents, students, pedestrians, and vehicle operators. Although repair work began nearly two years ago, it has remained suspended for the past 18 months.
The human chain was held at around 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, organised by local residents, students, guardians, and transport workers. Participants urged the local lawmaker and concerned authorities to restart the stalled work quickly and end public suffering.
Local resident Md. Saiful Islam said the Seota-Manpasha road serves as a vital connection between the Manpasha area of Nalchity and Bakerganj upazila. He added that hundreds of students from at least three government primary schools use the road daily.
"Large potholes and damaged sections of the road frequently cause accidents. Vehicles often lose balance, leaving passengers and pedestrians injured," he said.
Speakers at the protest said public suffering has reached an extreme level due to the prolonged suspension of the repair project. They warned that tougher programmes would be announced if the work was not resumed soon.
Nalchity Upazila Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) Sub-Assistant Engineer Md. Moinul Azam said the project was initially started by contractor Md. Nasim Akon, but work stopped after the contractor died.
"We are trying to resolve the issue quickly and resume the work," he said.
Residents hope the authorities will complete the repair of the important road as soon as possible to end their long-standing difficulties.
