Khagrachhari, Aug 22 (V7N)- Heavy rain caused by a cloudburst has raised the water levels of the Chengi and Maini rivers, inundating several low-lying areas of Khagrachhari.
Locals said several hours of continuous rain from midnight until dawn caused water to accumulate on different parts of the Dighinala-Kabakhali road.
As the water levels of local rivers rose, parts of Muslim Para, Battali, Islampur and other low-lying areas were submerged. Water also entered several homes, causing considerable suffering for residents.
Meanwhile, a landslide occurred in the 8-mile area of Dighinala following the heavy rainfall. The incident temporarily disrupted vehicle movement on the road.
Later, members of the Fire Service and local residents jointly removed the accumulated soil from the road, restoring normal traffic movement.
Authorities are monitoring the situation as continued rainfall could worsen waterlogging and increase the risk of further landslides in the hilly areas.
