Rangamati, Sep 23 (V7N)- After 36 hours of ongoing transport disruption, the Rangamati transport strike has been called off following assurances from the district administration. The decision was made during an emergency meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Sunday night.

Mizanur Rahman Babu, General Secretary of the Rangamati Autorickshaw Drivers Association, confirmed that the transport owners and union leaders decided to end the strike after the administration promised to address their concerns, including better medical treatment for injured workers and seeking ministry assistance for compensation to repair damaged vehicles.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain Khan announced that authorities would ensure proper treatment for the injured CNG auto-rickshaw, bus, and truck workers. They also plan to appeal to the ministry for aid in compensating for the vehicles damaged during the clashes. The strike had been called in response to the vandalism of 10 trucks, three buses, and numerous auto-rickshaws, as well as the serious injury of seven drivers in recent violence.

The transport strike, initiated on Saturday by the District Transport Owners Sramik Oikya Parishad, sought a fair resolution to these incidents. While the strike has been lifted, a separate 72-hour blockade in the region remains in effect and is expected to end on Monday.

The emergency meeting was attended by key officials, including Superintendent of Police SM Farhad Hossain, Army Zone Commander Lt. Col. Md. Ershad Hossain Chowdhury, District BNP General Secretary Mamunur Rashid Mamun, and representatives of the CNG-Bus-Truck Sramik Owner Association.

The transport strike and ongoing blockade have significantly impacted movement within the district, leaving residents in difficulty as traffic remains halted.
