Khulna, Feb 19 (V7N) – The situation at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) remains tense following recent clashes on campus. No classes or exams were held today, and police have been deployed at the campus gate to maintain order.
Student Demands and Campus Unrest
On Tuesday night, students held a press briefing and put forward six demands, including:
- A complete ban on student politics.
- Punishment for those involved in the attack.
- Resignation of the Vice-Chancellor (VC), Deputy VC, and Director of Student Welfare.
Students issued an ultimatum to meet their demands by 1 PM today. They announced that classes and exams would remain suspended until their demands were fulfilled.
Emergency Meetings and Arrests
- KUET authorities have called an emergency syndicate meeting at 11:30 AM today.
- KUET Chhatra Dal has also scheduled an emergency press conference at the Khulna Press Club at 12 noon.
- Police actions:
- Five individuals were arrested last night in connection with the clashes.
- However, no case has been filed yet, according to Khulna Metropolitan Police ADC (North) Md. Nazmul Hasan Rajib.
- Police continue to be deployed at the university gate.
Political Blame Game
- Students allege that there is a conspiracy to reintroduce student politics on campus, despite the existing ban. They claim that Chhatra Dal activists were behind the attack.
- Chhatra Dal denies the allegations, instead blaming Shibir and the banned Chhatra League for attacking their activists.
Expulsion of Jubo Dal Leader
- In a related development, Mahbubur Rahman, Vice-President of Daulatpur Thana Jubo Dal, was expelled from the party on Tuesday night for violating party discipline.
