Dhaka, Apr 15 (V7N) – The University of Dhaka has officially announced the roadmap for the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) elections, with plans to form the Election Commission (EC) by mid-May. However, the roadmap does not clarify the timeline for when the EC will announce the official election schedule.
The roadmap was outlined in a press release issued by the university's Public Relations Office on Tuesday (April 15).
According to the release, the university administration recognizes DUCSU as an integral part of its governance framework and emphasized that students are showing heightened interest in the upcoming elections. “The current administration is sincerely working to hold a fair and widely accepted DUCSU election,” the statement read.
The university has been engaging in discussions with various stakeholders since December 2024. That same month, the revised constitution of DUCSU was finalized and shared with student organizations. A total of six meetings were held during the drafting process. The revised constitution is currently awaiting syndicate approval.
In January, the university formed the DUCSU Election Code of Conduct Review Committee, which has since held seven meetings. The finalized version of the code of conduct also awaits approval from the syndicate.
According to the roadmap, the following key steps are set for May:
-
Formation of the DUCSU Election Commission.
-
Appointment of the Chief Returning Officer and other returning officers.
-
Preparation of the voters' list, with the help of the university administration.
Once these steps are completed, the Election Commission is expected to announce the election schedule.
The DUCSU election, long awaited by students and campus organizations, is seen as a crucial step toward restoring participatory student governance at the university.
